12th ANNUAL WESTCHESTER WINE EXPERIENCE

The 12th Annual Westchester Wine Experience will be held the afternoon of Saturday March 10, 2012 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm at Pace University, Kessel Center, Pleasantville, New York.

Your participation will help raise funds that benefit community and international charities annually supported by the Rotary Club of Pleasantville. This year featured beneficiary is Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital. We expect 300-400 attendees.

Book Distribution to 3 & 4 year-olds

On December 6, 2011, The Rotary Club of Pleasantville distributed books to 3 and 4 year-old children in the HeadStart Program in Chappaqua. Each student got three different bilingual books (English/Spanish). These books were purchased through a grant from Mahopac National Bank.

The Rotary club did a similar book distribution to Open Door and Neighbors Link on November 3rd, 2011.

Smoke Detector Distribution @ BRS

On October 6, the Pleasantville Rotary Club distributed smoke detectors to each of the kindergarten students at the Bedford Road School. This program, which is in its 21st year, recognizes the importance of fire safety. Fire Prevention Week during October is an opportunity to educate children and their families about fire safety what to do in an emergency. The Club looks forward to meeting with the children and helping to educate them in one aspect of fire safety – the importance of having working smoke detectors.

October 6, 2011 Program – Bonnie Dougan of the Young Adult Institute

The Y oung Adult Institute (YAI) is a not-for-profit organization that works with children and adults with development and learning disabilities. It has facilities throughout New York City, Westchester, Long Island, and even Puerto Rico. Bonnie Dougan, who works in YAI’s day program in Tarrytown, provided an overview of the organization what they do. YAI started in 1957 in Brooklyn by several parents looking for a place where their developmentally and learning disabled teenagers could go. Today the organization has over 10,000 “consumers”.

The day service program, one of many services offered by YAI, helps adults with developmental disabilities achieve their fullest potential for independence, individuality, productivity and inclusion in their communities. There are over 25 such programs that teach practical skills to help facilitate greater independence, productivity and pride of the participants. One component of the program includes community service with other not-for-profit organizations such as Rotary.
